The WCD Boys and Girls Club of Jamestown strives to provide youth a safe place to learn and grow. The United Way provides $135,000 to support Great Futures Start Here…and Grow Here initiative and $25,000 to support Commitment to Work Readiness and Career Opportunities program.
Great Futures Start Here works to foster academic success by providing 2070 community children ages 5-18:
281 total days of educational, character development and life skill activities
Evening, Saturday, school holiday, and summer programming
Structured drop in afterschool activities
Swim lessons, sports leagues, and summer camps
The Commitment to Work Readiness and Career Opportunities program promotes workforce readiness among Middle and High school students by providing students:
Computer skills and awareness of the increasing importance of technology in the workplace
Exploration of higher education and technical training choices
Financial planning and personal budgeting
Real-life experience in accountability and responsibility
Leadership development & community service
