The Jamestown Community Learning Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to crating a school climate that is responsive to students and their families. The overall goal of JCLC is to improve education success by establishing schools as the focal point for preventative family enrichment programs that develop effective home, school, and community partnerships. TEAM (Teenage Education and Motherhood)

YWCA of Jamestown

Works with teenagers and their children as well as pregnant teens to make high school graduation a reality, a stable lifestyle possible, and loving, nurturing parenthood a way of life. TEAM's academic services include flexible scheduling, academic support, classes leading to high school credit, and social work. Llicensed and accredited childcare provided. Small fee for child care. Scholarships available. Services moms ages 12-19, at least 16 weeks pregnant or parent of a child under 2-1/2.

YWCA Parents as Teachers Program

YWCA of Jamestown

A voluntary early childhood parent education program based o the philosophy that parents are their child's first and most influential teachers. Offers families regularly scheduled personal visits by certified parent educators, group meetings with other parents to share experiences, periodic screenings of children's development for early detection of problems or delays, and links with other community resources.

The Family Life Program is offered free of charge to Chautauqua County residents who have children in their homes and manage on a limited income (less than or equal to 200% of the povery level). The program provides small group and one-on-one instruction.

Postpartum Depression

We've compiled some helpful information explaining Postpartum Depression for women who may be suffering from the illness.

Postpartum Resource Center of New York, Inc. is a self-help organization established to provide education, emotional support and professional referrals to mothers suffering from postpartum depression. Women volunteers who have suffered postpartum depression are available to speak over the phone with women who may be suffering from the illness. Their number is (631) 422-2255.

Postpartum Support International's website offers access to their international Social Support Network, essays on postpartum disorders, postpartum chat rooms, helpful books and more. Their phone number is (805) 967-7636.

Depression After Delivery is a national, non-profit organization which provides support for women with postpartum depression. Its focus includes education, information, support groups, telephone support and referral for women and families coping with mental health issues associated with childbearing, both during pregnancy and postpartum. Their information request line is 1-800-944-4773 (4PPD).

An extension of the MOMS program, it is designed to help pregnant and post-partum women achieve the best possible birth outcomes for their babies. The focus of the program is on individualized instruction to help strengthen the mothers' knowledge and involvement in their health care, both during and after their pregnancy.

March of Dimes offers an online guide to healthy pregnancy as well as information on how your lifestyle choices can help you have a healthier pregnancy.

Doulas of North America (DONA) is an international association of doulas who are trained to provide the highest quality labor support to birthing women and their families. "Doula" refers to a supportive companion (other than a friend or loved one) who is professionally trained to provide labor support or postpartum care, advice, and family support.

Civitas is a national, non-profit communications group working to help adults understand what they can do to better protect, educate, nurture, and enrich the lives of children.

The Dana Foundation is a private philanthropic founded in 1950. The site provides access to information about the brain and current brain research, links to sites related to brain disorders and educational resources, activities for younger children and lesson plans, access to its free publications and much more.

Exceptional Parent is an online resource providing information, support, ideas, encouragement and outreach for parents and amilies of children with disabilities and the professionals who work with them.

The National Institute on Media and the Family is a resource of information on the influence of electronic media on early childhood education, child development, academic performance, culture and violence and offers a number of unique resources including: movie, television and video game content ratings; media awareness programs; and helpful hints for parents and families to evaluate their media use.

ParentCenter and its companion site BabyCenter offer a web resource for new and expectant parents and parents of children ages 2-8 to help you find information and support in caring for a baby, toddler, or child.

Parents as Teachers is a non-profit parent education and family support organization. Through a network of more than 2,600 local programs, more than 10,000 PAT trained and certified parent educators work with parents to provide them with parenting support and information on their developing child.

The Wonder Wise Parent is designed for parents, grandparents, foster parents, stepparents, caregivers, teachers, and parent educators. It was created and is maintained by Dr. Charles A. Smith, extension specialist with Kansas State Research and Extension in the School of Family Studies and Human Services at Kansas State University.

Talking with Kids About Tough Issues offers extensive information on many difficult subjects and is a national initiative by Children Now and the Kaiser Family Foundation.

AskERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) is an internet-based information service unded by the US Department of Education for parents, educators, and anyone interested in education.

FatherWork, from the School of Family Life at Brigham Young University, provides stories, ideas, and activities to encourage generative fathering

Fathers.com was created by the National Center for Fathering to provide research-based training, practical tips, and resources to help men be involved fathers

Parents Anonymous is a multi-national mutual-help organization for families who are affected by oor family dynamics and child abuse. The PA goal is to stop child abuse by providing peer-led, professionally-facilitated self-help groups for parents and teens, and a nurturing and education program for children.

ParentsTalk offers parents lots of useful information including expert advice, recipes, message boards, on-line games as well as an on-line newsletter.

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is the nation's largest organization of early childhood professionals and others dedicated to improving the quality of early childhood education programs for children birth through age eight.

The Promising Practices Network helps child care professionals by providing information on programs and practices that are effective in helping children, families, and communities.
